Purenum GmbH, with its certified hydrogel system mediNiK® for the effective removal of kidney stone fragments, has been acquired by FARCO-PHARMA, a long-standing and reliable partner in urology. Founded in 2017, Purenum GmbH is a spin-off from the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Materials Research (IFAM) in Bremen and will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of FARCO-PHARMA and will continue its work in research & development.
mediNiK®, the first certified medical product from Purenum GmbH, represents a significant advance in the endoscopic removal of kidney stone gravel: the two-component gel encloses even the smallest kidney stone fragments (< 1 millimetre) and thus ensures effective stone gravel retrieval. The medical hydrogel does not adhere to surgical instruments or the sensitive renal mucosa, is biocompatible and makes it possible to remove even the smallest remnants of kidney stones endoscopically. Thus mediNiK® meets a long overdue medical need.
The approval of mediNiK® stands for the commitment of Purenum GmbH to create a high-quality medical product from a research idea. The “mediNiK®” project was funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as part of the GO-Bio initiative. The aim was to exploit the gel’s potential so that as many patients as possible could benefit from it. The result is the certified two-component hydrogel, which enables the removal of even the smallest kidney stone fragments from the kidney.
