European software M&A market – full-year snapshot 2017

The European software market is growing again in terms of realized transactions

▪ 2017 has been another active M&A year for the European B2B software market, as the total number of transactions has increased again by 7% over 2016

▪ 54% of all 2017 transactions have been realized with companies promoting vertical software applications, meaning SaaS and on-premise solutions, which serve specific industry needs

▪ Business process software companies, meaning solutions, which are horizontally applied across various industries, have been traded second most with 37% of all transactions

▪ As already highlighted in our midyear snapshot, the biggest software transaction of 2017 remains the Visma/HgCapital deal, with a notable deal value of EUR 1.6 bn at a 5.6x sales/23.5x EBITDA multiple
