Carlsquare Weekly Market Letter

  • Consumer sentiment is the weak spot for the stock market to revive. Confidence is historically low due to higher interest rates and energy prices. Expectations before the Black Friday buying bonanza are also low. Maybe too low?
  • This week is a light trading week due to Thanksgiving, with a focus on the Fed minutes. We would be surprised if the minutes do not repeat the hawkish mantra from the last Fed release. But any disagreements in the discussion will be of the highest importance
  • It may be time to buy some insurance in the market again as VIX falls below its lower Bollinger band
  • Consumer indices in the S&P500 are doing poorly on the stock market, which is illustrated in the graph below.
