How to navigate the stock market when Sweden stumbles

30 Jun 2025

The year started strong for the Swedish stock market, but the spring was a roller coaster. What happens now?

Anders Elgemyr discussing the Swedish stock market at Dagens PS.

“It has hurt to be on the stock market.” says Anders.

Although the fundamentals are weak, the market is being held up by continued money pumping from the world’s central banks. This confuses many analysts, who find it difficult to understand why the multiples are increasing despite poor underlying numbers.
“It doesn’t add up, but liquidity is seeping in everywhere – on the stock exchange, in the fixed income market. The trend is upward after all.”

The stock market in Sweden has lagged behind

While Germany and the United States have shown strength, the Swedish stock market has been stagnant.

“Export dependence is a problem. We were very adapted to the globalization trend,” says Elgemyr, who believes that it hurts Sweden when the map is redrawn. He is convinced that we will be fine, but that we are not the most interesting in the market right now.

The strengthening of the crown also comes into play. And unlike Germany, where individual stock market giants have lifted entire indexes, Sweden has had to do without similar locomotives.

However, the Swedish stock market has been one of the weakest.
