Carlsquare advised Edukatus Alliance AB on the sale of Astar AB to Katharina Sjögren Edström and Hannah Börefelt

Astar was established in 2013 following Thorengruppen’s acquisition of JB Kompetens. The company specializes in municipal vocational education, labor market training, Swedish for Immigrants (SFI), and recruitment training programs. With over 20 schools across Sweden, Astar offers educational programs in 12 diverse subject areas, serving students nationwide.

Edukatus Alliance is one of Sweden’s largest private education providers, with over 1,500 employees and more than 11,000 students. The organization operates preschools, primary schools and high schools across Sweden. Edukatus Alliance was founded in 1999 as Thorengruppen, before changing its name in September 2024 as part of a change of ownership.

The transaction marks a significant step in aligning Astar AB with leaders deeply committed to its mission. The sale of Astar AB to its former management team highlights the strength of Carlsquare’s expertise in facilitating strategic carve-outs and securing successful outcomes for education-sector clients, ensuring a seamless transition and a promising future for the business.
