Carlsquare advised Thorengruppen on its sale to private investors
Carlsquare advised Thorengruppen, Sweden’s third-largest private education provider, on its sale to Johan Nylén, of Consolid Equity, and Petter Samlin, of Altor Equity Partners, both of whom acted independently of their respective private equity firms.
Thorengruppen, founded in 1999, is Sweden’s third-largest private education provider, offering education at the pre-school, elementary, high school, and adult levels. The company is organised into six business units: Thoren Business School (high school education), Yrkesgymnasiet (vocational high school education), Thoren Innovation School (IT-focused high school education), Astar (adult vocational education), and Thoren Framtid, which includes both pre-schools and elementary schools. Together, these units operate more than 60 schools across Sweden, employing over 2,000 people and educating more than 18,000 students.
Johan Nylén and Petter Samlin both have extensive experience investing in and developing businesses operating in regulated environments. Following the transaction, Ester Alavei has joined as CEO, while Fredrik Geijer, who previously worked as municipal manager in Trelleborg and Halmstad, has been appointed Chairman of the Board.
