Carlsquare advised diveo GmbH on the sale of three agri-PV and BESS co-location projects to an established German energy provider

Carlsquare advised diveo GmbH (“diveo”) on the sale of three agri-PV and BESS co-location projects to an established German energy provider. The three projects are located in Southern Germany, are spread across different medium-voltage grid areas and have a grid connection capacity in the double-digit megawatt range.

diveo, a spin-off of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, is an independent developer of agri-PV and battery storage projects in Germany. The company focuses on commercially viable co-location concepts that combine long-term agricultural use with renewable power generation and flexible storage operation. Its goal is to create economically attractive solutions for landowners, farms and asset operators that last for decades.

The buyer is an established German energy provider that is active in, among other areas, the development, construction and long-term operation of renewable energy assets.

The projects combine agricultural use with solar power generation through single-axis tracker agri-PV systems and high-capacity battery storage. The co-location concepts enable flexible trading of the energy generated, as well as operation of the battery storage systems as hybrid or grid-charged storage that can draw power from the public grid and market it. In this way, the projects combine long-term, economically viable agricultural management with efficient use of grid connection capacity.

As the share of renewable energies grows, so does the need for flexibility in the power system. Combining yield-optimized agri-PV systems with flexibly marketable battery storage opens up additional revenue potential and creates attractive investment opportunities. The transaction underlines the interest of established energy providers in integrated agri-PV and BESS projects.

“The successful sale of the three projects shows that agri-PV combined with battery storage is an attractive business model for large energy providers as well. What matters is the interplay between farmers who want to unlock new economic prospects for their land, efficient project development and asset operators with a long-term focus. This creates projects from which agriculture and the energy sector benefit equally. We would also like to thank Carlsquare for their professional support throughout the transaction.” – Kai Klapdor, Managing Director, diveo GmbH

Carlsquare acted as exclusive financial advisor to diveo.
