Carlsquare advised NanoWired on its series A fundraising process by Walden International and JX Nippon Mining & Metals Group
Walden Technology Ventures IV, L.P. (“Walden International”), a US based international VC-fund, and JX Nippon Mining & Metals Corporation (“JX Metals”), decide to take a capital stake in the German start-up NanoWired GmbH (“NanoWired”).
Demand for miniaturization and higher performance of electronic devices has accelerated in conjunction with the recent expansion of the IoT society, presenting challenges for dealing with heat generated. This is due to higher-density electronic devices and improving product reliability. In response to these challenges, NanoWired is contributing to the realisation of innovative electronic devices by proactively developing electrical and thermal interface materials that utilise NanoWire technology, as well as semiconductor mounting technologies.
NanoWired develops technologies for growing fine wires less than 1um diameter (“NanoWires”) on various substrates and production equipment for such NanoWires. Growing NanoWires on substrates enables bonding at room temperature or lower heat and higher density in shorter time, making it possible to achieve high electrical and thermal conductivity and bonding strength.
Walden International is a San Francisco based global venture capital firm focusing on investments in the technology sector.
JX Metals is carrying out global business operations that cover the full range from resources development, smelting and refining to manufacture and sales of electronic materials, and recycling of end-of-life equipment. Their Long-Term Vision 2040 sets direction for engaging in co-creative development with partners to constantly create new technology-based businesses. As part of these efforts JX Metal is advancing collaborations with start-ups such as NanoWired. Examples for cooperation include providing materials required for NanoWire growing processes, such as copper foil and plating materials, joint development focused on future social trends, including those in the semiconductor mounting field, where growth is expected to accelerate, and application of NanoWire technologies to JX Metal’s own products.
Carlsquare acted as the exclusive financial advisor to NanoWired and its shareholders, supporting them in identifying the ideal partners during a structured international fundraising process through marketing materials preparation, business plan development, due diligence process coordination, and transaction negotiations.
